BC Lions to Hollywood
So, what does WWF (World Wrestling Federation), the 1976 classic movie Rocky, and the hit television show 'Married with Children' all have in common? The B.C. Lions, of course! www.bclions.com
The small provincial football team has jump-started the careers of some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Let's start off with the most obvious person, Pamela Anderson.
In 85' Anderson attended a B.C. Lions game where she appeared on the stadium screen. Within minutes, Anderson's career took off at an incredible speed and she is now a worldwide celebrity. During the game, the fans in the stadium went wild for then 21-year-old, and sure enough she was escorted down to the field to receive an ovation from the crowd.(How wild is that!) From that moment on Anderson moved from appearing on a small stadium screen to the big screen; Home Improvement, Married With Children, Bay Watch, and the horribly wrong, Barb Wire, were just a few of her Hollywood roles that all started because of the B.C. Lions.
Go Pamela!
Remember Carl Weathers? He is most famous for his character ‘Apollo Creed’ in the blockbuster Rocky. Well, before he became a huge Hollywood success he was the linebacker for the Lions and played in 18 games from 71 to 73. After a couple of years with the Lions, Weathers landed himself right in the middle of Hollywood blockbusters. He went on to play Creed in three other 'Rocky' movies, followed by another major supporting role in Predator (1987), an action film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
And lastly, the connection between the BC Lions and WWF brings us to the famous ‘Tito Santana.’ The classic WWF wrestler ‘Tito Santana’ (Merced Solis) played one full season with the B.C. Lions. I mean this guy was the founder of the popular tag team –Strike Force – and to know that he played with the BC Lions just made my world that much smaller.
I hope that you found this trivia about the BC Lions interesting.
I wonder who will be the next star coming out of the BC Lions... Any guesses?
