I remember the very first time I signed on with a television agency. I was 13 years old, and simply fascinated with the concept of being in TV commercials, just like the kids I would see on TV when I would be watching my afterschool specials.

I had asked my parents to drive me into the city for this meeting with the TV agent. But unfortunately this request was a tall order for my immigrant parents. Not only was I asking them to drive for an hour, but also they didn’t quite understand this acting business. And so, I emphasized the one word that would convince my parents to help me out and that was JOB. I had told my parents that I could have a job doing commercials. I knew that this three-letter word was all my parents needed to hear.

And so we loaded up the car with the whole family, including my parents, brother, Aunt and Uncle, and off we went to the exciting city for my interview. Yes, you can say we were the Indian version of the Beverly Hillbillies.

Thankfully, only my mother came into the meeting with me, and this is when I signed on with my very first television agent. What a thrilling experience. No one ever asked for my signature before, so I was excited. Ecstatic. I was going to be on TV!

But unfortunately my parents, like many immigrant parents, weren’t as empathetic towards my creative side. And so driving me around to auditions for FREE was not a task my parents were about to embark on.

Fast forward twenty years later, and here I am, in television.

For almost a decade now, I have been hosting and co-hosting various life-style and entertainment shows for radio and television, while landing various TV acting roles.

But no matter what opportunity I'm diving into I always seem to remember my starting point with fondness.

From such traumatizing, yet humours, experiences I now find myself to be an adventurer and thrill seeker, but most of all a believer in the power of attitude.

With time my parents have become more supportive and continue to be F’n hilarious!

Thank you to my parents for the drive!
